Welcome to my blog, and thanks for stopping by!

In this stream of consciousness, I make my best attempt to capture my experiences as a runner and living abroad… and the occasional intersection of the two.

My husband, M., is a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. His work takes us to fascinating places all over the world. I tag along, eat bonbons, watch soap operas, and host fancy wine and cheese parties for other diplomat types.

Just kidding.

I am an English teacher, usually of middle school, but in this lifestyle, flexibility is a requirement, so I do my best to have an open mind toward all sorts of opportunities wherever we land, including being able to document our journey through this blog.

I started writing for an online audience in 2011 as I was preparing for a 12-hour footrace. That blog slowly evolved into this one through a series of unexpected yet wonderful life changes.

At the moment, we are posted in Riga, Latvia. Our first foreign service post was in Matamoros, Mexico, after which we spent about eight months in Arlington, Virginia while M. learned Russian in preparation for our time in Riga. We are very excited for the opportunity to explore a part of the world new to us! Fortunately, I was able to find a teaching job at one of Riga’s international schools.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you will join me as I travel the world with my loving, supportive husband, our sweet pup Frieda, and my ever-loyal running shoes.

  1. I saw the word “Runner” in your title and just had to click on your blog. I am enthused to see that your a runner as well. I have currently been running for 11-12 years and absolutely love it. All through my late middle-school tohighschool, and college I have been running. Thankfully I had minimal injuries being a pulled hamstring, torn quad, and IT-Band strain. I read a couple of your posts and am immediately hooked. I wish you continued success in all of your races and hope to share some running moments with you in the future! Definitely following you =).

    • Thanks so much for your comments, Nick, and for visiting and following my blog. I have enjoyed poking around on your blog as well. Apologies for my delayed reply! Running is one of the reasons I get up in the morning, and it sounds like you feel the same way. I wish you continued success in your training and racing as well!

  2. To whom at my concern: My name is Allie Kolb and I work in casting for a popular international travel show. The show is comprised of following people who are moving from one country to another. It can be a temporary move (6 months or so) or a permanent move. There would be monetary compensation involved for the people featured on the show. Let me know if you are interested in speaking with me about the show or if you know of anyone who may be interested! If you have any questions you can contact me via skype at alliekolb.leopard, or email me at AllieKolb@leopardusa.com. Thanks!
